Great device. November 9, 2008 This is the best way I know to find out how much power your electrical devices are using. Found out that battery chargers don't all work the same. Some stop using power when they are through charging and some don't. Those are the ones to unplug when not in use. My computer monitor uses approx 20 watts less power when in standby mode. Coffee brewers and toaster ovens use lots of power. Coffee cup warmers use a considerable amount too. This device will pay for itself with the electricity you will save by knowing what devices to use and which ones to unplug when not in use.
A great, easy to use device to help cut your electric bill November 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought one of these a year ago when our electric bills were sky high and I couldn't figure out why. The device is easy to use, you just plug it in an outlet and then plug the appliance or device that you want to measure into the Kill A Watt monitor. You can tell at once how many watts per hour it uses or you can leave it plugged in over several days or a week to see how much electricity the item uses over the time period and then get an average per hour.
I found that one of those little electric heaters was costing us nearly $100 per month to use on a constant basis. I found the incandescent light bulbs were using 8 or 9 times the electricity that a compact fluorescent would use. Regular lights on a Christmas tree were using almost 10 times what the same number of LED bulbs used. I ran around the house plugging in one thing after another, the TV, electric blankets, computers, stereo and appliances. I also ended up making a lot of changes and saving money on our electric bill. Changing out light bulbs alone saved us almost $30 per month.
This little device more than paid for itself. Two thumbs up for this one!
Kill-A-Watt Display did not work November 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While monitoring electrical usage is a great idea, this product clearly did not work. Display is very dark. Could not read the results. After contact with the manufacturer tech, the only help they could give me was to send it back.
It does the job November 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The meter gives readings in whole watts with easily read numbers. The displayed value seems to change quickly to match changes in energy use.
I was able to quickly learn about the energy use of computer stuff and appliances in our home. Recommended.
cool item November 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this thing is pretty cool. it doesnt automatically tell you how much kilowat hours something will use, but its easy to just plug it in for an hour and take the number and multiply it yourself to get the desired information. it is definentely worth buying if your bastard roommate is constantly accusing you of high power bills when you know your computer doesnt use that much energy. (it was his huge big screen TV in the living room plus the xbox 360 and surround sound).
