A Couple of Pointers: December 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Quick comment on two features:
I noticed one reviewer complaining about spending 15 minutes separating the label from the backing. If you read the directions you will find there is a "device" on the back of the machine that assists in the separation. It takes about 3-5 seconds to remove the backing.
You can adjust the length of each label. I understand that the label must extend out for cutting, but there is a bit of waste on each label.
All in all, I like the system. It has a good instruction sheet. Use it.
Usable general purpose labeler December 23, 2008 The Brother PT-80 is a usable general purpose labeler. It is clearly not designed for heavy duty use. It has no provision for an external power adapter.
Ergonomically, it is well designed. Cup it in your palms and you can easily type with your thumbs, easily reaching every key. Lay it on a flat surface and two finger typing is the order of the day.
The interface is reasonably intuitive which is good, because the printed instructions aren't overly helpful. A few minutes of experimenting with button functions should bring the user up to speed.
One thing many users who skip reading the instruction sheet miss is that there is a little slot on the rear of the unit which can be used to separate the tape from its backing.
Overall, this is a pretty nice unit, though it feels insubtantially made - and probably is. Shop carefully and you can find this at truly excellent prices from some vendors who use it as a promotional item. Buy one at that price and you won't be sorry.

Great Product December 17, 2008 I have no real complaints about this product with the exception of the battery life. It does not last very long on the AAA batteries that it requires. Other than that this product is very user friendly and serves its purpose well.
Label it All!!!! December 15, 2008 Label it all..... These things are so affordable and easy to operate that it blows my mind thinking we didnt always use them around the house. They are very practical and the replacement label tapes can be found anywhere...for great prices.
Excellent item in my opinion....
Good portable labeler December 1, 2008 I use this for work. I use it to put labels on all of the company's computers (about 75 to 100) with the funky network names that we use.
Better than the hand-held labelers because this keyboard is easier to use. The best way I can describe it is like a video game controller. It works really well like that.
It does not have an AC power source, but that's OK by me. You are moving the labeler to the object here, not the other way around. The AC cord would never get used anyway.
Not a whole lot of options here on label size, typeface, etc. It's your basic labeler, nothing else.
Good: * Simple to use. * Easy to move around / keep in your hand. * Lightweight * Gets the job done the same way every time. * No cords to lose.
Bad: * Battery life (AAA batteries - what do you expect?) * Labels are expensive (buy in bulk at discount) * The numeral keys (0 - 9) are really easy to press one number too high until you get used to it. * Can be difficult to peel the backing off the label after printed.
