Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
This sporty Croton timepiece features a two-tone dial with white indexes, a magnified date display at three o'clock, and a unidirectional blue bezel for easy timekeeping. The flexible and polished stainless steel band fits securely to the wrist with its fold-over clasp with safety. Japanese automatic movement ensures precision and a water-resistant depth of 100 feet means you never have to worry when you head for the beach. An automatic watch is a mechanical watch that is self-winding. The movement of your wrist and body causes the rotor--a weight attached to an automatic winding mechanism--to wind up the watch. This automatic watch has 21 jewels, which are synthetic ruby stones that the gears turn on to protect the metal parts from grinding together. An automatic watch needs no battery, but it will stop if not worn for over a day (30+ hours) or if you have been physically inactive for an extended period of time. For the times when your automatic watch is not on your wrist, the elegantly-designed watch rotator will provide the movement needed to keep it accurate. A perfect pairing to your automatic watch, this rotator also works as a display case.

2 out of 5 stars Good winder...cheap/inaccurate watch   December 6, 2008
I'm reviewing this Croton watch:
[...]
as a caveat to the potential buyer.

The winder seems to work fairly well...2 rotation directions [controlled by a rocker switch] and runs on AC via an adapter.
The WATCH, on the other hand, is questionable:
a) It is grossly inaccurate. After winding it for 80 minutes [there were no instructions, so I looked online: generally, ~800 TPD [turns per day], both directions, is recommended. The winder rate is ~10 TPM [turns per minute], so I ran it 40 minutes in one direction and then 40 in the other: ie, 800 turns total.] I then set it to www.time.gov and set it upright on my desk in still on the winder cushion. Even though the second hand appeared to keep moving...and seemed accurate...the minute hand lost about 3 minutes over a 20 minute period! I am wearing it now, and constant movement seems to help. Maybe there was some oil in the mechanism? Time will tell if this was a starting "glitch" and I will edit my review in the future as needed.
b) The bezel is cheesy and verrry hard to move [counterclockwise, but, again, not specific instructions on directions...I had to email Croton...and they did reply, thankfully...that is a plus! My bezel has a thin blue coating with numbers, and it scrapes very easily just when I adjusted the bezel...not a good sign.
c) The crown screws out in order to adjust the date [first stop] then the time [second stop]...but it is not well-defined; it requires you to do it by feel...sometimes you get it, sometimes not. Again, cheesy.
d) Croton also informed me that the band links can be removed with a screwdriver. I have yet to try that yet.
e) The rotor on the winding mechanism is stamped "unadjusted"...?

So, the caveat here is: don't expect a high-quality watch here...it looks good, but it might be a real battle to get it to work consistently.

I give this package a star for looks...and the fact that Croton actually answers my email ;-)...I may need to contact them again...and, another star for the winder.

In conclusion, I would treat this as a winder purchase, and don't count on the watch.

Just my 2 cents...

4 out of 5 stars Elegant looking   October 7, 2008
The watch is very elegant looking. It is also a very low price. The shipping is free. I can't believe I bought this kind of watch for less than a hundred bucks. I really liked it but was gone (stolen) on my way to the Philippines.

1 out of 5 stars Looks good but does not keep time   October 6, 2008
Looks good and the self-winder works. However the watch seems to go faster by 2 minutes each day... I believe $5 watch would keep better time.

3 out of 5 stars Solid for $89.99 (not $600)   October 6, 2008
I purchased this watch about a month ago. I'd read about Croton on-line prior to purchase. I don't think this is the same quality watch that they made even 20 years ago, but for what I paid, I'm satisfied. It looks great. It keeps accurate time (when worn frequently or kept in auto-winder). My only real complaint is that the luminescent orb on the bezel fell out within 1 hour of putting on the watch. Worth $90, but not $600.

1 out of 5 stars WORST WATCH EVER   September 18, 2008

Boy was I impressed with this watch when I first got it, it looked fantastic and came with a fancy "leatherish" watch case. I was given so many compliments about it and was thrilled I got such an attractive watch at a low price.

After awhile, like others have said, the watch would "accelerate" time and I would not have an accurate idea of what time it was. It took me a month to notice this because the watch kept running out of juice because it is powered by movement and I would have to reset the time.

I kind of put up with all these annoyances until parts of the watch started falling off, such as the "0" marker on the cronograph and how the cronograph stopped spinning. That's when I gave up hope and decided to purchase a name brand.

Stay away from this thing, it looks great, but over time you will learn to hate it. It's so bad I would feel guilty giving it to someone, because I know they will be slowly tortured by it.
