Product Description
An 802.11b Wireless Access Point with a built-in Cable/DSL Router & 4-port 10/100 Switch

Amazon.com Product Description
When you connect your cable or DSL modem to the Netgear MR814 wireless router, you'll enjoy wired or wireless Internet access for all your computers, and you'll be assured of protected communications on your home or small office network. This three-in-one router, switch, and wireless access point allows you to share your Internet connection, files, and printers with other computers on the network.

You'll be surfing the Web in minutes with Install Assistant to guide you through each step and onscreen help that's there when you need it. The unique Smart Setup wizard automatically detects your ISP connection type, saving you time and effort. Lighted, front-panel icons display status at a glance. The router works with PCs, Macs, and virtually all Ethernet devices.

A sophisticated network address translation (NAT) firewall protects against Internet hackers, while a virtual private network (VPN) pass-through allows users secure access to corporate networks. Powerful encryption (40-, 64-, or 128-bit) protects against eavesdroppers, and address authentication restricts connections to specific wireless adapters--only those you approve are allowed to use your network. E-mails notify you of Internet activity, and content logging and filtering limit access to inappropriate Web sites.

Roam your home and office with the freedom of a Wi-Fi notebook computer. Distribute MP3s, digital movies, and photos with ultrafast, wired LAN ports capable of speeds of 200 Mbps. Preprogrammed port-forwarding setups simplify playing multiplayer games and hosting Internet services. Share a single broadband connection with up to 253 users to give everyone simultaneous access to the Internet. The Netgear wireless router provides a powerful 2 dBi detachable antenna for longer wireless range, and delivers double the memory and a 50-percent-faster CPU than many popular routers.

The Netgear MR814 comes with a three-year warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Still Going Strong, Four Years After Purchase   November 1, 2008
I bought this router in 2004, so I've had it in use in my apartment for over four years. It's worked flawlessly during that time, with good connection strength throughout my apartment, and fast download/upload speeds. Interestingly, after I had upgraded from an Apple G4 laptop with a self-installed wireless card to a newer MacBook model with built-in wireless, connection strength and download speeds dramatically improved, leading me to conclude that much of a wireless router's capabilities depend greatly upon whether one's computer has a good wireless card installed. One of the attributes I really like about this router is its small size, which enabled me to tie a shoestring around it and hang it from a nail on the wall in an unobtrusive location. This maximizes broadcast/reception strength and keeps it out of sight.

5 out of 5 stars Very Durable Stuff   October 9, 2008
I have bought it in 2004 and still using it without any problem..
All I did is updated the software and it is good as anything

5 out of 5 stars Good router   May 4, 2008
Excellent router that has served me without a hitch for 3 years. A G router has now replaced it, but I still use this as a backup and portable router.

2 out of 5 stars MR 814 Doesn't Hold Up   January 10, 2008
Bought the MR 814 and within 2 years it's antenna or transmitting capability died. Netgear replaced it with the same model since it was under warranty. 3 years later it's dieing again. Not under warranty. It's used constantly so not sure if it just burns out or what. Used all day long on one iMac and then by additional Mac and Windows PC as well as iTouch. It now transmits intermittently and occassionally will just stop transmitting. Unplugging it seems to help it regain it's transmitting power. Started with Lynksys originally but could not get it to work with Windows PC. That's how I ended up with Netgear. It was pretty much plug and play.

I BOUGHT A WIRELESS ROUTER FROM AMAZON AND I CAN'T EVEN USE IT. FOR ONE NO SOFTWARE AND TWO I DON'T THINK IT EVEN COMES WITH A MODEM. I TELL YOU I AM VERY DISAPOINTED AND I WILL NEVER BYT ONE HERE AGAIN.
