Product Description The USB to parallel converter cable allows Winterm customers the ability to attach legacy port peripherals to simple and powerful small-footprint USB products. The parallel converter cable supports Centronics standard printers.
Amazon.com Product Description The Sabrent USB-to-Parallel, 6-foot printer cable is the best solution to convert USB signals to parallel port signals, and it is also compatible with most printers' supported drivers. With a bi-directional technique, this cable makes the communication completely from USB port to parallel port or completely from parallel port to USB port. The model also makes the communication work with both a PC and a Macintosh. This USB-to-parallel printer cable is typically used to connect a printer to a USB port on a PC. It connects a desktop or laptop computer with on-board USB to a parallel interface printer. By using this USB-to-parallel interface converter cable, you can connect any standard parallel printer to a USB port. The USB interface provides a much faster data transfer rate than a standard parallel port, thereby reducing the time waiting for a print job to be sent to your printer. This portable device is self powered and provides plug-and-play installation to any USB-compliant computer running Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP, or a Mac running OS 9.2 or higher. It includes a 6-foot USB-to-parallel adapter cable and the drivers on a CD. What's in the Box USB-to-parallel cable; drivers on a CD.

Seems to work fine but it's not 6 feet December 10, 2008 'Bought this roughly one month ago for a Vista 64 bit system using a ten year old Lexmark color jet printer. It was simply plug & play & works just fine. I paid ~$15.00 which was a good price relative to other prices out there. The Amazon price as I write this is ~$3.00 cheaper which is fair given that the unit I received measured from head to toe is actually only 5 feet. So it might be worth asking if given the new lower price, it is now actually only 4 feet! 'Wasn't worth the hassle to return it but do take note especially if you need the advertised length.
Plug and Play with Windows XP and ME December 10, 2008 I didn't even need to use the disk. It works as a Plug 'n Play, meaning you just plug it in and the "new hardware wizard" on your computer finds it and installs the drivers. Loading up the disk probably will just confuse the computer if it's a newer computer.
It let my older HP printer connect to my newer computer. Great product!
USB Printer Cable December 6, 2008 This printer USB Cable is perfect. I bought it to connect a printer to my son's laptop. All I had to do is plug it into the laptop's USB port and connect to the printer. The laptop recognized the printer right away - no driver loading necessary. He was able to print in a minute.
Does not work well with Vista64 November 26, 2008 Occasionally works with my Vista 64 system / HP LaserJet 4L. After first installing, it worked as expected. But after just about every reboot, the printer fails to work. Sometimes, it will start working if you re-install, but frustratingly, not always. The problem is compounded by having multiple users on the system. It wants to install a printer device (on a new virtual USB port) for each one. So, the upshot is, unless you never reboot your system, this is a big pain to use. It gets 1 star because it did work (and still does, sometimes) and you can't really give a 0 star review here, but really for the frustration it should get 0.
Worked for me October 30, 2008 Worked perfectly out of the box with Vista and an old brother HL-1440 laser printer. Windows provided a printer driver automatically and I did not have to use the provided driver for the cable adapter. I suspect the trouble the one-star people are having is more of a quality control issue with the cable rather than an incompatibilty problem. Perhaps I lucked out and got a good one.
