Product Description The 5-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch provides non-blocking, wire speed switching for your 10, 100, and 1000 megabit network clients. Drop this switch in place of your current workgroup hub or switch, and you can upgrade your high-requirement workstations to full Gigabit speeds as necessary, while continuing to service other clients at their current speeds. Or build your network from the ground up, with appropriate link speeds for each user's requirements. Either way, it's perfect for graphics, multimedia, and other applications that have to move large files across the network quickly. With the 5-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch, you can connect your existing 10/100 Ethernet network to a Gigabit server backbone without any additional equipment. All ports have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you don't have to worry about the cable type. Each port independently and automatically negotiates for best speed and whether to run in half- or full-duplex mode. Address learning and aging is supported, as well as 802.3x flow control with head-of-line blocking prevention to keep your high-speed clients from bogging down in lower-speed traffic. Fast store-and-forward switching prevents damaged packets from being passed on into the network.

Cruddy Linksys Product - The others will see soon enough December 4, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Real quickly, I'm a network administrator for one of the largest websites in the US, so I'm not clueless when it comes to these devices. Like all the positive reviewers here, I was very happy with this unit when I first bought it. Worked like a charm, fast, cheap - what more could I ask for? Well how about a unit that didn't go belly up due to Linksys cutting corners on parts?
Apparently some versions of the SD2008 and SD2005 had fans, but they have been cut out. Now these little buggers overheat, and when they do, it can cause capacitors to go bad which basically kill it's ability to operate in gigabit mode. In fact, several of my computers (and I've tried all sorts of NICs/computer combos) just repeatedly drop connection in a neverending loop. Nice work Linksys.
I've read on forums that many others have the exact same problem - usually takes months for it to show up. One guy actually tore his apart, and saw the blistered/bulging components that had overheated and replaced them (hope you're handy w/a soldering iron.)
Works great November 3, 2008 Another rock-solid product from Linksys...and if you have a problem, it has a life time warranty.
Business quality equipment at home September 19, 2008 I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband WRTP54G router. After running for a year, the switch part of the router started hanging, every time I powered off my HP computer. That left my other wireless computers without access to the network printer. I had to power cycle the router which also downed my VoIP service.
I placed the Linksys/Cisco SD2005 switch between my router and other Ethernet connected equipment. Now my HP computer has a 1GB connection and the SD2005 switch never hangs when the HP computer is powered down. The router now only has one Ethernet wire that is connected to the SD2005 switch, which never gets powered off. My Linksys Wireless-G Broadband WRTP54G router again runs 24 hours a day. That keeps my VoIP service up and running uninterrupted.
It is hard to believe that today I can get business quality equipment at home owner prices. I highly recommend the Linksys/Cisco SD2005 switch.
Be aware of ethernet cable issues. December 4, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Be aware of ethernet cable issues. Even though the Cat5e spec is for cables up to 300 meters long, you may have issues with a much shorter cable, depending on factors such as the quality of the cable, the connections, bends in the cable, etc. I experienced data loss with a 90 foot cable.
Otherwise the adapter works fine.
Linksys SD 10/100/1000 Gigabyte Switch (5-port) November 5, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was having trouble with my Vonage phone audio quality and found through testing all the modems with Vonage customer service help, it was my router causing the problem. I bought this Linksys 5 port switch with 1000 gigabyte to boost the broadband signal. Adding the switch along with the router fixed the problem immediately. I haven't had a bit of trouble with it. Very easy to connect and works great. Thanks
