Amazon.com Review
"Faster than a speeding waistband... more powerful than boxer shorts..." It's Captain Underpants! Young readers will devour this fancy new boxed set of the first five paperbacks in the side-splitting, potty-humored (literally) Captain Underpants series. These books are award-winning--but really, who cares about awards when you're reading about talking toilets and the perilous plot of Professor Poopypants? The "epic" collection includes The Adventures of Captain Underpants, Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets, Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space, Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants, and Captain Underpants and the Wrath of the Wicked Wedgie Woman. (Ages 5 to 12)

5 out of 5 stars Captain Underpants Rocks!   November 10, 2008
I bought a 5 book series of Captain Underpants for my 8 year old grandson. The reading level was right on, the books were hilarious, and he read all 5 within a 7 day period. A laugh out loud series for kids and adults.

5 out of 5 stars Loving these books!!!   September 2, 2008
I was a little worried when my brother bought the first book for my then 6 year old (now 7 year old) son. It set on my sons book shelf for about a year as we read through other books he had. The about a month ago he asked me to read it with him. I was hooked, it is so easy to read and so entertaining that I had hardly noticed we had read for about an hour and finished the book. We rushed out the next day to buy another one, and then another. We are now on the 3rd one. My son also likes to read ahead during the day so he knows what will happen when I read it to him before bedtime. I think he gets a kick out of the fact that I can find it funny too, we have something to share together. They do use words in the book that I dont really allow him to use, and there is a little name calling which we are also strict about, but we try to turn it into a learning experience. He knows that just because someone says something mean or inappropriate does not mean that he can. Also people are complaining about how the boys misspell words in their comic book. If you are worried about that then maybe you could just have them look at the book with you and help you find the words that are not spelled right and talk about how they are supposed to be spelled. Tell them that the boys are not learning how to spell properly because they are not paying attention in class. I dont know, you kind of have to find a way to make an example out of the things you dont agree with as a parent. Anyway we love these books and I am really trying to get my son to see that reading can be a fun adventure. I want him to read for pleasure when he is older too, not just read because the teacher says he has to do a book report. I would highly recommend these books to parents who have a sense of humor and the time to talk about how the naughty things that the boys do in the books are not to be done in real life. I love you Dav!!!! Looking forward to checking out some of his other work when we are done with Captain Underpants.

2 out of 5 stars Not that great   May 15, 2008

After two or three of these books, the plot becomes dull and loses its humor. Also, I would not recommend these for children learning to read and write as they are filled with misspellings (picher for picture and shurely for surely). I don't quite get why this is supposed to be funny, but it's confusing and ultimately detrimental for my 8 year old.

Finally, parents take note: Pilkey has created a lucrative business based on potty humor and his inability to draw above a 3rd grade level. This is the junk food of the children's book industry. Many young children will find these books funny, but just as we don't allow our kids to eat candy and chips all day, these books should be limited.

This book is outstanding! It is the best book I have ever read. I like it because it is gross and very funny! I give it five stars.

5 out of 5 stars My son can't stop reading these   March 18, 2008
For an elementary-school-aged child, these books are great. My son needs no prompting to read them.

There's a bit of 'potty talk' in there, but I find them hilarious!

Some of the best books for this age that I've seen.
