Editorial Review Rayman 2 follows in the footsteps of Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie as another classic 3-D action game for the Nintendo 64. Rayman, who is strangely huge in France, is a strange yellow creature with hands and feet that are magically connected to his body by invisible appendages. This odd character can glide like a helicopter and throw his fists around as well as jump, climb, and swim. As in any decent action jumping game, Rayman meets up with many friends and enemies on his quest. Your mission is to rescue hostages held by the vile Robo-Pirates. The game has an odd cinematic feel to it--perhaps due to its widescreen presentation and cutscenes. A cute feature is the design of the characters, who speak in their own forms of cute gibberish. Graphically, this game is rich with deep dark colors spread out over 50 levels and 20 worlds. Hiding in these levels are colored "lums" that can be used to open up new worlds or to restore Rayman's energy. These come in handy when you want to breathe underwater for long periods of time. Rayman must also collect magic masks and crystals, among other goodies. --Robb Guido Pros: - Vivid 3-D graphics
- Huge number of levels
- Lots of gameplay variety
Cons: - The Dreamcast version looks even better

UbiSoft Should Have Gone to School. . . July 27, 2006 Having switched to a Gamecube, I got spoiled on the level of brilliant music & graphics coming from games like Tak and the later Rayman games. But the Raymans were so cool, I wanted to play the earlier one, which was only available for the N-64. So, I researched on the Net, found it and bought it. While it takes awhile to get used to the lower quality graphics, the game is still enjoyable. The only problem is that UbiSoft did not build a "Game Save" function into Rayman 2, so unless you can find an obscure attachment to your old N-64 system to save games, you are pretty much screwed for saving your game play. Also. I tried the old trick of just "Leaving The System On", but for some reason the game would "Freeze Up" after several hours of non-play and you have to re-start the system which, of course, kills your game and you have to start over from the beginning.
After a few times of doing this, I just gave up. Banjo-Kazooie is also an N-64 game, but its Game Save is built-in. UbiSoft should have gone to school before putting out Rayman 2, so players would not have to buy a memory attachment for their system. As it is now, I do not know where to find one.
Also, the game language is in Japanese with English sub-titles, unlike the later Gamecube games for Rayman. It's a little annoying, but you kinda get used to it.
Overall, if you have the memory attachment for the N-64, it is a fairly enjoyable precursor, but without it you will not be able to play it unless you go from start to finish without letting the system go idle.
Finally, ALL of the Raymans have the same quirk, but Rayman 2 is the worst: The Camera Angle keeps shifting unexpectedly and, even when you correct it in order to, say, jump between two "safe spaces" with a dangerous area inbetween, you jump and then the Camera Angle suddenly changes, leaving you to frantically adjust your move " IN MID-MOVE", usually resulting in a fatal plummet.
Even with its several flaws, the series became progressively more interesting. Looking forward to Rayman 4 this coming September for the NEW Nintendo System.
Too short... September 11, 2004 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just to let you know, This game is way too short to be a pretty good game. It took me only five hours to beat. If you want a very long game that is VERY hard to beat, then get Jet force Gemini. That game is so hard and long that I'm still trying to beat that game. or get the easier but not as easy as Rayman 2 older Id Software's first person shooters. DOOM for an example or Wolfenstien 3-D.

Cool game! January 26, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a very good game. Any action fan must have it.Pros: 1. Cool Graphics 2. Great voice-acting 3. Cool sounds 4. Great gameplay 5. Huge worlds 6. Nice moves 7. Cool story Cons: 1. Graphics could have been better 2. Cinema scenes are long and sometimes boring 3. No multiplayer value So this game has some cons. The graphics could have been better, but also the cinema scenes are like 10 minutes long. But the gameplay is cool, too, and it is still a must have.
