Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Timbaland is already acknowledged as one of music's most inventive and distinctive creators. Yet the artist/producer's forthcoming album, just his second solo album, promises to shock the world. Timbaland Presents Shock Value (Mosley Music Group/Blackground/Interscope) is set for release April 3, 2007. The first single, 'Give It To Me,' featuring Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. 'My mission is to blow up the boundaries and tear down the limits,' says Timbaland. I'm taking my music outside of the box. I'm not getting away from what I'm known for; I'm just going to a place where it's all about the music, not about the labels on the music. That's why I call it Shock Value--from the artists to the production, it will shock the system. Guests include Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtadio, Jay-Z, Fall Out Boy, Nicole Scherzinger (PCD), Snoop Dogg, Lil' Wayne, Twista, She Wants Revenge, The Hives, Keri Hilson, Elton John and more. This is the explict version.

When the most exciting producer in pop music himself puts out a CD, the thrill is in the discovery: The world may have already suspected that Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, and a small army of other singers owed 75% of their fame to the stockpile of skittering beats Timbaland built and then graciously set them upon, but here's a chance to prove it. Or it might have been in less welcoming hands. Shock Value is a far-reaching and ambitious disc; a masterpiece, even, in its own way. But it's not at all self-centered. If there's a point being put across here, it's that Timbaland came by your vote as behind-the-scenes musical man of the hour honestly: pair him with Fall Out Boy or the Strokes, and he will not only provide tracks that surprise you by maintaining their rock 'n' roll integrity, he will also convince you that shimmer's role in rock music has, to now, been tragically misguided and miniscule. Re-team him with Timberlake and Furtado (for the near-flawless track "Give It to Me") and he will again trade vocal bites, but they will still be nibbly, not voracious. In a CD full of experiments and puzzles (why is Elton John just piano-playing, not singing? And how did the L.A. band One Republic end up on this disc?) a single truth emerges: Timbaland's taste is impeccable, but his judgment is even better. Shock Value, by virtue of its swirly beats and mesmerizing rhythms, will bring him a smidge closer to the spotlight. But because it's a disc of collaborations, he'll retain the shadowy-genius reputation that precedes him, and that he so richly deserves. --Tammy La Gorce

3 out of 5 stars CD   September 30, 2008
The CD itself is good enough, but no cover for the CD, which is very bad and looks poor.

3 out of 5 stars I was surprised I liked some of the songs!   September 23, 2008
Last year I thought Timbaland was one of the most overrated producers in the game. I liked some of the singles from "Shock Value" so I decided to get it at the used cd store. Wow was I in for a surprised! Some of the tracks are actually listenable! Timbaland actually experimented with new sounds on this album and it's not just the same cookie cutter beats that we're used to hearing from him. There are even rock songs on here featuring bands like The Hives and Fall Out Boy. I think "The Way I Are" despite its bad grammar, is one of the best singles of 2007. Keri Hilson's voice may be a little average, but the song is down-right addictive. I have to say my favrorite song is the 2007 single "Scream" featuring Keri Hilson and Nicole Scherzinger (of the Pussycat Dolls fame). While this album isn't perfect it is still very listenabls so I give it 3 and a half stars. If only they worked with U2 or Green Day on this album. Oh well it's still good!

1 out of 5 stars Don't Order here if you are in a hurry!   September 15, 2008

5 out of 5 stars Put it on shuffle and leave it on all day!   July 31, 2008

I first listened to this album late at night doing a 2 hour drive home. It was probably one of the best times to listen to it. What an amazing album. I was already a Timbaland fan since hearing his work with Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado. I love this album for partying or driving or whatever. It's the most fun CD I've ever heard, great for anyone who's into hip-hop, r&b, pop, and even some rock.

Favorite Tracks:

2. Give It To Me - This is Timbaland at his best. This is still one of my favorite songs and the verses from Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, and Justin Timberlake were all cool. Everyone should know this one since it was a #1 hit on the charts. Whenever this song comes on, I bob my head and people just have to dance.

5. Bounce - Some people think this song is dumb, but I think this was just another really fun song. It sounds like they had a lot of fun recording it. Missy Elliott's verse was funny and cool. The beat was hard and very club-ish with a cool hook from Justin Timberlake. It also features a verse from Dr. Dre.

9. Fantasy - Arguably the best song on the album in my opinion, and it wasn't even produced by Timbaland! If you're into r&b/pop, you will want to hear this one. All the vocals are done by a relatively unknown female singer named Money. She does a very good job and I hope to hear more from her. The beat and the hook are simply addictive.

10. Miscommunication - Another r&b/hip-hop hit with some rap thrown in. Up-and-coming singer Keri Hilson does an amazing job here with a very cool Danja beat. Rapper Sebastian does a good job finishing up the song, although I wish the overall song was a little longer.

Other good songs are the the HUGE Top 5 hits "The Way I Are" and "Apologize." The liked the previous songs I mentioned a little better personally, but those two are amazing as well. Also don't miss "Release" and "Scream." There's also a lot of good artists and bands like Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls, 50 Cent, The Hives, and Fall Out Boy. Definitely go get this one.

3 out of 5 stars most of the songs were so-so   July 14, 2008
The songs "The way I Are" and "Apologize" are the best songs on the cd and the rest were kinda boring, I thought.
