Man, people giving this bad reviews just because it scrolls a little bit slowly and they would like to use the scroll wheel on their ipod is so annoying. If you're interested in using the scroll wheel on your ipod while driving, in order to find specific songs one by one, you're an idiot. Have a good time in the hospital after you get into an accident. I have owned this product for almost a year now and would say that its almost perfect. Yes, it does scroll a little bit slowly but unless you're a complete idiot (like all of the people who gave this bad reviews), you'll find that all you have to do to avoid this is to pick the album you want to listen to, begin to play it and then pause it, before plugging it in. It starts right from where it left off. Also, you can make playlists and put them on shuffle, because there really is no way to manually pick each song, song by song, while driving. So basically this product is as good as I expected it to be, it sounds great and allows me to carry my entire music collection in my car at all times. If you own an Alpine head unit and an ipod, buy this product... unless your'e some kind of moron you'll love it.

First off this compliments very very nicely with my Alpine DVA-9860 HU. I do not have an amp but have Boston Acoustics SX95's in the rear and SX55's in the front with stock tweeters in the front as well. The sound shines. The unit works like its supposed to.
Now for the hard part. Its not easy scrolling through menus, playlists, as you have to do A LOT OF SCROLLING with the dail. If you have say 2000 songs+ forget about trying to scroll by artist, song. Its impossible. What you have to do is make short playlists of your fave songs. If not, you will be frustrated with trying to get to the song you want. This is a downfall of this system. You can not control the iPod once its hooked up so that stays in the glovebox.
Its a good way to listen to your iPod through your car's audio system (If you have an Alpine HU). Those FM transmitters are not for music fans. They do not sound good and have their own cons.
For now, this is as good as it gets. Icelink was another product that people rave about but its almost the same thing I think.

The ONLY reason i bought this unit when I saw it in the store was for the iPod controller feature. I really looked forward to being able to control my iPod from the deck and hiding my ipod in my dash completely out of sight. Boy was I disappointed! The iPod adpater works and all... but barely. It takes FOREVER to scroll through the songs, artists or albums. Why the hell would Alpine put out a product that has an inferior scrolling mechanism and then lock you out of the iPod so you can't even select songs from the iPod itself? I have over 3000 songs on my iPod... by the time I scroll to the song I want I've already reached my destination... and that's if I even find the song at all! So now what I have to do is unplug my iPod, scroll to the song I want, then plug it back in. (Luckily the reciever continues to play whatever song was already playing when you plug your iPod in.) But again... that defeats the whole point of having the controls built into the deck. Bottom line, the iPod control feature flat SUCKS. The deck features a "quick search" function... but it is uselss... it isn't used to search through artsts or albums... only individual songs and there's no way to skip 10, 20, 30 or 100 songs at a time... only 1 by 1... What's "quick" about that? I have 3000 songs and hundreds of artists and albums and Alpine thinks I'm supposed to go through them 1 by 1???? Another annoying thing about this unit is that when you skip through songs while the iPod is playing, the display just says "song up" or "song down" instead of just showing the name of the damn song! Who thought of that? What possible help could "song up" be to anyone? Just show the name of the song while I'm skipping through... that makes more sense right? There are a bunch of other problems I have with the practicalness of this unit when used with the iPod adapter and iPod... but the sound quality is great which is the most important thing... but then again... who cares if the sound is great when it takes you all day to find the song you want to listen to?

Here are the pros of the iPod integration: Charges the iPod while I drive so it is always fully charged, the sound quality is great (much better than with the FM transmitters), and finally it keeps the iPod out of sight. Cons of Alpines iPod integration: THE INTERFACE SUCKS, THE INTERFACE SUCKS, THE INTERFACE SUCKS. Let me explain, the iPod is wonderful because it is so easy to use, however when ever you connect the iPod to the Alpine deck it blocks out the iPod controls so it can only be controlled from the stereo deck. This wouldn't be so bad except that the deck does a horrible job of controlling the iPod for two reasons, first because there is a huge lag time when browsing through songs, playlists, or artists. And secondly because the interface is so complicated to use, you have to understand that for me to have to read a manual for a piece of electroincs in pretty rare but for this thing I keep the manual in the glove box because it is so hard to use I have to read up on it every time I want to use it. Just browsing for a song can take as many as 6 button presses (which all have to be in correct order). I hear a second generation interface will soon be out, and I would suggest holding out for that.

This is an absolutely amazing product by the guys at alpine. Having all 6500 songs (and counting) in my car at all times is a dream come true. If you have a compatible alpine cd player, get this so you never have to lug a bunch of cd's in your car ever again!
